CREATING REALITY by GARAGE STORIES, Barcelona 2018

Garage Stories is an open lab for content creators to explore the storytelling possibilities of emerging technologies (XR (VR / AR / MR). It first opened its doors in 2017 in Silicon Valley and has since held dozens of hackathons and projects in various cities around the world.

From January 19 to February 4, 2017, I was part of a hackathon focused on virtual reality storytelling along with 27 other creatives coming from diverse backgrounds like film, 3d modeling, development, music, architecture, psychology or theater to co-create four immersive short films that would be screened at one of the biggest film festivals in the city of Barcelona, the «Salón del Cine y las Series» visited by 25,000 people every year.

The first week of the hackathon began with an immersive theater game to get to know the members of each team and continued with design thinking workshops to devise and prototype the immersive stories using 3D printed physical models of the different locations where the 360 short films would be shot.

During the second week, each team shot their piece with the help of professionals (DOP, sound, and editing) who facilitated the final production of the experience.

Finally, the 4 360 short films were exhibited at the «Salón del Cine» festival.

With a team of 6 members, we filmed “El Testigo” a 360 short film, recorded with a Kadao VR camera, in the Hotel Catalonia.
